Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 5.5% in the second quarter of fiscal year 2018/2019, versus 5.3% in the same quarter a year earlier, Egyptian planning minister said on Wednesday.

Egypt was ranked third among countries in terms of GDP growth, while India and China came in the first and second spots with GDP growth of 7.1% and 6.4%, respectively, Hala El Said added in a statement.

The remarkable economic growth came as a result of the government’s efforts in the current period, as well as the economic reforms, which have been positively reflected on the economic indicators, El Said indicated.

This will provide a better life for citizens as the government is still seeking further economic and social improvement, she stressed.

Earlier this day, two government sources revealed that Egypt’s GDP rose 5.6% in the first half of fiscal year 2018/2019, from 5.2% in the same period a year earlier, Reuters reported.

The North African nation aims to achieve a GDP growth of 5.8% this current fiscal year.

It is worth noting that the country’s GDP increased 5.4% in FY17/18.
